T. Bradley Tanner, MD

President

Dr. Tanner is a Psychiatrist and President of Clinical Tools. At Clinical Tools, he is responsible for technological and curriculum development, evaluative research, and marketing of products. His goal is to integrate technology into health care to enhance best practice and improve health outcomes.

He lives in Chapel Hill, NC with his wife and 3 active children aged 9, 12 and 15. Dr. Tanner is an avid Utah skier and frequently visits Snowbird and Alta. He also enjoys running, commuting to Clinical Tools via bicycle, windsurfing, traveling with family, and cooking healthy meals.

Mary P. Metcalf, PhD, MPH

Vice-President

Dr. Metcalf brings her diverse background to Clinical Tools' project by concentrating on adult learning, and qualitative and quantitative assessment. She served as Principal Investigator for 3 SBIR Phase//Phase II projects, leading to EndingSuicide.com, and TobaccoCME.com, as well as BrainTrain4Kids.com.

Dr. Metcalf enjoys doing yoga, anything that involves being outdoors, reading F/SF, and drinking black tea. Most of all, she enjoys spending time with her family, which includes 3 amazing and confusing children, and cleaning up the messes they leave behind.

Karen Rossie, DDS, MS, MACP, PhD

Research Associate

Karen Rossie brings a diverse background to CTI: She majored in biology at Cleveland State University and studied dentistry at Case Western Reserve University followed by completing a Masters in pathology at Ohio State University. She taught and practiced oral pathology and oral medicine for 12 years at the University of Pittsburgh, doing research in autoimmune disease, transplantation, cancer, salivary gland disease, and diabetes. An interest in the psychological aspects of disease led her to obtain a PhD in psychology at the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto where she now teaches part time in a distance learning program. She has used this diverse background to lead or contribute to CTI projects related to tobacco cessation, substance abuse treatment, anxiety, dementia care, and pain and addiction.

Dr. Rossie loves dancing and a variety of outdoor activities, being with family, and entertainment reality tv shows.

Lyla Hance, MPH

Research Project Director

Lyla Hance received her Masters of Public Health in Public Health Leadership from the Gillingbs Global School of Public Health. Prior to receiving her MPH, she received a bachelor degree in mathematics and statistics from the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she graduated with distinction, and completed a certificate in field epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Hance's professional interests include addiction, epidemiology, nutrition, obesity, pain management, and serious games.

Lyla works as a Research Director and serves as Statistical Evaluation Coordinator on several projects at CTI. She also contributes to the research and development of content, Drupal web development, and survey design.

Lyla is an avid reader. She also enjoys yoga, ballet, hiking, and healthy cooking.

Will Sanders, BS

Programmer

Will majored in Bowling Industry Management at Vincennes University and minored in Puppetry. While in college, he performed in over twenty plays and was trained to be a professional wrestler by Afa of the Wild Samoans. In 2010, he received his very first passport, which he proudly admits is still in "mint condition." A master of the martial arts, Will often wears his "karategi" in public to signify the presence of security.

In his spare time, Will assists the FBI in hunting down the newly-found combo-terror of puppy-mill fighting rings and donates his time to teach unprivileged children of Somalia the art of poledancing.

Will enjoys running, all things health & fitness relate, and spending time with family and friends. 

 

Margaret Froneberger, BS

Project Director/Manager

Margaret Froneberger received a B.S. in Biology from Duke University in 2008, graduating with distinction in biology. She also has a Chemistry minor from Duke University. Her research background includes working at the Duke University Department of Psychology & Neuroscience, Duke Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Duke University Medical Center Department of Pharmacology & Cancer Biology, and Joslin Diabetes Center, a Harvard Medical School affiliate. She joined Clinical Tools in August 2009 working on the Opioidrisk online training project, that aimed to improve the opioid prescribing practices of health care providers. She developed content and case-based simulated clinical practice experiences for the website and co-authored a module on assessing patients with pain for risk of substance use disorders. She has strong expertise in the Drupal webforms module; the module allows the creation of online surveys and forms, and she works on consolidating and analyzing this data for various programs.

As Product Manager for BupPractice, she focuses on improving and promoting the online buprenorphine training program to maximize revenue and achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction. The successful program has over 3,800 completions.

Margaret works as a Project Director on several projects at CTI. Current projects include the development of a treatment support video game for in-treatment addicted patients, as well as development of a training program for treating overweight and obesity in adult patients.

 

Kimberly Lynn Workman, BA, PHCP

Project Director and Drupal Developer

Kimberly Lynn Workman has been with Clinical Tools, Inc since 2002. She has contributed to the development and implementation of multiple grant projects focusing on medical school education, risk behavior prevention, and child/adolescent health, as well as presenting resulting outcome measures at a number of conferences throughout her time with Clinical Tools. In addition, Ms. Workman has undertaken various levels of content management and website design in the areas of Drupal, XML, HTML, CSS, PHP, and Javascript.

Ms. Workman has an American History BA, with a double minor in Religious History and Creative Writing, from UNC-Chapel Hill. She has continued her education by receiving a CORE Certificate in Public Health and a Field Epidemiology certificate from UNC-CH. Ms. Workman has been a member of American Mensa since 2008. She is currently a staff writer and contributor to a number of media blogs: Fandomania, Nerds in Babeland, SpoilerTV, and formerly ScienceFantasyUniverse. You can find all her articles at her site. Kimberly enjoys making contributions to the fandom community and hopes to visit Canada again in the near future.

Sydney Henson, BS

Research Assistant

Sydney received her Bachelors degree in Nutrition from NC State University, where she graduated Magna cum Laude in 2012. Her research background includes childhood obesity prevention. She worked to develop and test a hands-on science and cooking based curriculum for preschoolers in government funded preschools. During her time at NC State she worked extensively in the community, teaching nutrition and cooking classes to preschoolers, adolescents, college students, and adults. Her field interests include obesity, nutrition, and breastfeeding.

As a Research Assistant, Sydney focuses on the Impact Obesity project, a training program for treating obese adult patients.

When she isn't working, you will find her horseback riding or trying new foods with her husband. She has a particular love for ethnic food. Her favorite dish is Yebeg Alicha, an Ethiopian specialty.

 

Grace Glembocki, BA

Research Assistant

Grace Glembocki received her bachelors degree in Exercise and Sport Science with a minor in Spanish for the Professions from UNC-Chapel Hill. While in college, she volunteered in various physical therapy departments within UNC Hospitals and as a Hispanic Outreach Intern at the NC Botanical Garden. She also traveled to Ecuador in July 2012, as a volunteer, to work in organic farming and local communities in the Andes Mountains. Grace plans to pursue a career in physical therapy in the future.

As a Research Assistant at CTI, Grace is working on the project Virtual Clinic EHR: Pain Management, an iPad gaming application that teaches health professional students about common pain condition challenges.

Grace enjoys running, all things health & fitness related, and spending time with family and friends.
